Trivandrum: Common people are being charged Rs. 50 for an OP ticket rather than Rs. 5 rather at the government homoeopathic hospital in Iranimuttam. The investigation also found that postgraduate students are consulting the patients instead of doctors.
Several rules are being broken by the hospital administration. A special OP of Rs. 50 is supplied on the false pretence of getting treatment from an expert doctor, but, the patients have been consulted by the PG students. Some doctors within the hospital have expressed their objection to the practice.
The government hospitals were started with the aim of providing free treatment to the common people. But the reality is quite the opposite in this case. It is reported that the higher officials of the department are also involved in the violation of rules by providing extra charges. The rising question is: why is there no action even though the rate of extortion is an open secret?
