Dutch football league ‘Eredivisie’ will have Goal- Line technology from next season

Netherlands: In a significant development for football in the Netherlands, the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) has announced that the Eredivisie, the country’s top-tier football league, will implement goal-line technology starting from the 2023-24 seasons. This move aims to ensure accurate decision-making regarding goals scored and whether the ball has completely crossed the goal line.

The KNVB’s decision to introduce additional goal-line cameras in all Eredivisie stadiums marks a significant step towards enhancing fairness and minimizing human error in critical match situations. The four new high frame rate cameras, positioned strategically on both sides of the goal line, will provide the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) with precise visual evidence to determine if a goal has been scored.
The goal-line technology system, distinct from the automatic goal-line technology used in other leagues, allows referees and VAR officials to review footage and assess whether the ball has crossed the goal line entirely. Unlike the automatic system that directly notifies referees through their watches, this implementation empowers match officials to make accurate judgments based on the information provided by the goal-line cameras.
