Bengaluru :  In a thrilling encounter at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, the Indian football team emerged victorious against Nepal with a 2-0 win, confirming their place in the semi-finals of the SAFF Championship 2023. The victory also extended India’s unbeaten run on home turf to an impressive 12 matches.

The first half saw the Blue Tigers facing a resilient Nepal defense that frustrated the Indian team’s attacking efforts. However, determination and strategic adjustments during halftime paid off, as goals from Captain Sunil Chhetri and Naorem Mahesh Singh in the second half secured the much-needed three points for the host.

The Indian team showcased their resilience and skill on the field, with Captain Sunil Chhetri leading by example and displaying his clinical finishing ability. Chhetri’s goal provided the breakthrough India needed, raising the spirits of both the team and the passionate crowd at the stadium.

Assistant coach Mahesh Gawli, who replaced suspended head coach Igor Stimac, and Naorem Mahesh Singh, made a significant impact from the touchline. Singh’s goal sealed the victory for India, ensuring their progression to the semi-finals of the tournament.
In the earlier match of the day, Kuwait dominated Pakistan, securing a convincing 4-0 victory. With this win, Kuwait also secured their spot in the semi-finals from Group A, alongside India.

The upcoming semi-final clashes promise intense battles as India and Kuwait prepare to face formidable opponents from Group B. The Blue Tigers’ unbeaten run at home will surely boost their confidence, while Kuwait will aim to build on their impressive performance against Pakistan.
