London – In a scintillating display of batting prowess, Australian batsmen Steve Smith, Travis Head, and David Warner guided their team to a commanding position on the opening day of the second Ashes Test against England at Lord’s.

England won the toss and letting the Aussies bat first, showcased their dominance from the start. Smith, Head, and Warner all contributed half-centuries, putting their team in a position of comfort by the close of play.

The English bowlers found it difficult to break through Australia’s solid batting line-up, with Ollie Robinson being the only successful wicket-taker for England on the day. Robinson managed to dismiss a batsman; while Josh Tongue and England captain Joe Root each claimed two wickets.

Australia’s first innings total stood at an impressive 339/5 when play concluded for the day. Smith, who has been in exceptional form throughout the series, remained unbeaten on 88 runs at stumps, accompanied by Alex Carey, who was not out on 11 runs.
Smith reached his half century in 105 balls, marking his 38th fifty in Test matches and fourth consecutive fifty-plus performance at Lord’s.
