Indian Men’s Hockey Team announced for 100th anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation-International Tournament

New Delhi: Hockey India revealed the 24-member Indian Men’s Hockey Team that will be participating in the prestigious 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation-International Tournament scheduled to take place in Terrasa, Spain, from July 25 to July 30. This tournament serves as a crucial preparatory event for the Indian team as they gear up for the highly anticipated Asian Champions Trophy in Chennai in 2023, followed by the Hangzhou Asian Games.

Led by the talented drag-flicker and defender Harmanpreet Singh, the Indian team will be guided by vice captain Hardik Singh, an influential midfielder known for his exceptional skills. The team boasts a strong goalkeeping department, with the experienced duo of Sreejesh Parattu Raveendran and Krishan Bahadur Pathak providing a solid foundation at the back.

The defensive lineup includes seasoned players such as Harmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Jarmanpreet Singh, Manpreet Singh, and Sanjay. Additionally, defenders Varun Kumar and Nilam Sanjeep Xess, who missed the FIH Pro League matches in Belgium, have been named in the team, bringing their valuable expertise and presence to the squad.

The midfield will be commanded by energetic and dynamic players like Hardik Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Shamsher Singh, and Raj Kumar Pal. The return of Sumit and Nilakanta Sharma, who missed the FIH Pro League matches in Belgium, adds depth and versatility to the midfield lineup, further strengthening the team’s midfield control.

The forward line showcases the lethal attacking prowess of Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Mandeep Singh, Gurjant Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Abhishek, Pawan, Dilpreet Singh, Simranjeet Singh, and Karthi Selvam. This talented group of forwards possesses the ability to score crucial goals, create scoring opportunities, and apply relentless pressure on the opponents’ defence.

The 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation-International Tournament will provide the Indian team with a valuable opportunity to fine-tune their skills, test strategies, and gain valuable match practise ahead of the upcoming Asian Champions Trophy and Hangzhou Asian Games. The tournament will feature tough competition from teams such as England, the Netherlands, and host country Spain, providing a challenging yet crucial platform for the Indian team to showcase their abilities.
