DHAKA – The Bangladesh Women’s cricket team is geared up to face the Indian Women’s team in the first T20I of their limited-overs tour in Dhaka on Sunday. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, Team India has arrived in Bangladesh for a series comprising three T20Is and three ODIs. However, the announcement of the squad for the women’s tour raised eyebrows as it excluded two prominent names: pacemaker Shikha Pandey and destructive batter-wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh, known for her excellent record in the format. The omission of these players without any explanation has irked fans, adding to the surprise.

Notably, another notable absence from the squad is pacer Renuka Singh, who has been India’s leading pacer for the past year. Additionally, Shreyanka Patil, widely regarded as the next big talent in women’s cricket in India, did not receive her maiden call-up despite an impressive performance of nine wickets in the ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup held in Hong Kong. Patil’s exclusion has left many wondering about the selection criteria.

The Bangladesh Women vs. India Women 1st T20I is scheduled to commence at 1:30 pm IST, with the toss taking place at 1:00 pm.

India’s opening pair will consist of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, two explosive batters known for their aggressive style of play. Jemimah Rodrigues is expected to bat at No. 3 for India in the T20Is. Yastika Bhatia will take on the wicketkeeping duties, while Meghna Singh and Anjali Sarvani are likely to spearhead India’s bowling attack.

The squads for the match are as follows:

Bangladesh: Nigar Sultana (captain, wk), Nahida Akter, Dilara Akter, Shathi Rani, Shamima Sultana, Sobhana Mostary, Murshida Khatun, Shorna Akter, Ritu Moni, Disha Biswas, Marufa Akter, Sanjida Akter Meghla, Rabeya Khan, Sultana Khatun, Salma Khatun, Fahima Khatun

India: Harmanpreet Kaur (captain), Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Yastika Bhatia (wk), Harleen Deol, Devika Vaidya, Uma Chetry (wk), Amanjot Kaur, S. Meghana, Pooja Vastrakar, Meghna Singh, Anjali Sarvani, Monica Patel, Rashi Kanojiya, Anusha Bareddy, Minnu Mani.
