New Delhi : The much-awaited schedule for the Asia Cup 2023 has been officially announced by Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The tournament is set to commence on August 30, with arch-rivals India and Pakistan locking horns in a thrilling encounter on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

The announcement was made on Twitter by Jay Shah, generating immense excitement among cricket enthusiasts across the globe. The Asia Cup 2023 will follow a hybrid model, with four matches scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan and India’s matches, along with a total of nine fixtures, taking place in Sri Lanka.

The prestigious tournament will culminate in a high-octane final to crown the best cricketing nation in Asia, to be staged in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

India finds itself placed in Group A, alongside Pakistan and Nepal. India’s campaign will kick off with a high-profile clash against arch-rivals Pakistan in Kandy on September 2. Their second group match will also be held in Kandy, this time against Nepal on September 4.

The Super Four stage matches will begin on September 6 with a gripping clash between Group A and Group B sides, which comprise Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. Lahore, Pakistan, will host the initial Super Four matches, while the remaining fixtures will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The tournament will be played in the 50-over format, a perfect preparation for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to be hosted in India from October 5 to November 19.

Sri Lanka, the defending champions, are eager to defend their title, having clinched the Asia Cup last year. They boast an impressive record of securing six titles in the history of the tournament.

India, on the other hand, holds the distinction of being the most successful team in Asia Cup history, having lifted the prestigious trophy seven times, underscoring their dominance and cricketing prowess.
