Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh police on Tuesday shot at the accused, who tried to escape after molesting a 14-year-old girl who had just returned from the Ganesh festival. The incident happened in the Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, the accused, Mohammad Afzal, molested the girl as she was returning from the Ganesh festival and idol immersion. Hearing the girl’s screams, bystanders intervened, subdued the accused, and rescued the girl.
Afterward, the girl attempted suicide due to the torture. Her family broke down the door, and rescued her as she tried to hang herself, and promptly took her to the hospital. Currently, the girl’s condition is reported to be satisfactory.
Meanwhile, Afzal, the accused who was being taken to court, attempted to escape from police custody. He managed to grab the pistol of the policeman accompanying him. While attempting to escape, Afzal fired at the police. In response, the police shot at Afzal, injuring him. He was subsequently admitted to the hospital. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
