Chennai: One person died, and 10 people were injured after the roof of a petrol pump collapsed due to heavy rain. The tragic incident occurred yesterday in Saidapet , Chennai. Kandasamy (54), a native of Saidapet, was the deceased. Hospital authorities have reported that the injuries of all ten people in the accident were serious.
The police are investigating whether the roof collapsed due to heavy rain, lightning, or a falling tree branch. Upon hearing the screams, locals rushed to the scene, but it was difficult to remove the debris. Rescuers stated that approximately eight two-wheelers were trapped under the collapsed roof.
Eyewitnesses claim that the roof collapsed immediately after being struck by lightning. Following the incident, a rescue operation was conducted under the leadership of locals, but the debris could not be cleared. Firefighters and police swiftly arrived at the scene using a crane, successfully removing the debris and rescuing those trapped underneath.
