Lal Bahadur Shastri assumed office as Prime Minister in 1964 following the passing of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister. He was the leader who guided the country during one of its most significant crises.
During the 1965 war between India and Pakistan, he went to the extent of forgoing his Prime Ministerial salary. He played a pivotal role in spearheading the White Revolution, which was instrumental in transforming India’s dairy industry and boosting milk production.As the architect of the slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,’ Shastri’s legacy continues to inspire both farmers and soldiers in India to this day.
