Kochi: The High Court has granted interim bail to television star Shiyas Kareem in a molestation case. The High Court directed that he should be produced in court and released on conditional bail.
The actor was arrested at Chennai airport in a case involving the molestation of a young woman with a promise of marriage. Shiyas, who was abroad, was attempting to return to Kerala via Chennai, but customs authorities stopped him.
The customs section at Chennai airport informed the Kasaragod Chandera police about Shiyas Kareem’s arrival. Customs officials stopped him based on a lookout notice issued by the police. The woman, a 32-year-old divorcee, filed a complaint against Shiyas, alleging that he had sexually assaulted her under the pretext of marriage and had extorted Rs 11 lakh. It is also alleged that Shiyas impregnated the woman and forced her to undergo an abortion.
The complainant underwent a physical examination at the Kanhangad district hospital, and her statement was privately recorded before the Hosdurg Judicial First Class Magistrate Court.
