Kannur: A gold smuggling attempt was foiled at Kannur airport as Customs seized 857 grams of gold worth Rs 49.49 lakh. The individual involved, Muzaffir, a native of Mattanur who arrived from Dubai, attempted to smuggle the gold by concealing it in his underwear. The discovery was made during an inspection conducted by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Customs.
Gold smuggling has been an ongoing issue in the Indian state of Kerala due to its extensive coastline and proximity to international smuggling hubs. On October 5th, police officials arrested an individual at Karipur airport who had successfully passed all checks, including customs inspections, upon departing the airport, and seized gold worth Rs 33 lakh from him.
