Srinagar: A soldier was injured in a landmine blast near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, J&K police officials said. The soldier was identified as Rifleman Gurucharan Singh who was on patrol duty when he accidently stepped over the landmine in the forward Kalsian village in Nowshera sector, the official added.
The soldier was immediately rushed to the nearest military hospital and given first aid. He was then airlifted to Command Hospital in Udhampur for specialist treatment.
As part of the anti-infiltration strategy, the army is employing landmines to block potential infiltration routes, with the aim of preventing armed terrorists from gaining access. However, there have been instances where these explosive devices were displaced due to heavy rainfall, resulting in accidental detonations.
