Pathanamthitta: Sabarimala Temple is all set to welcome devotees as part of the Thulam month (Thulamasa) puja. The temple’s sanctum sanctorum will be opened at 5 p.m. on October 17, with Melsanthi K. Jayaraman Namboothiri leading the ceremony and lighting the lamp under the guidance of Tantri Kandararu Mahesh Mohanararu. Malikappuram Melsanthi V. Hariharan Namboothiri will open the Malikappuram Devi temple and oversee the distribution of offerings. For today, there are no special pujas scheduled in the temple.
The temple will reopen the following morning at 5 a.m., commencing with the Nirmalyam and regular Abhishekam rituals. At 5:30 am, the Maha Ganapati Homam will be held in the mandapam. Following this, the ghee anointing (Neyyabhishekam) will begin. On October 18, after Usha pooja at 7:30 am, the drawing of lots to select the Melsanthi (head priest) of Sabarimala and Malikappuram is scheduled to take place.
A panel of 17 candidates is in contention for the role of Sabarimala Melsanthi, while 12 candidates are for the position at Malikappuram. Vaideh and Nirupama G. Varma from Pandalam Palace will conduct the lot-drawing process. Devotees can avail themselves of Sabarimala Darshan until the 22nd of this month.
