ISRO chief S. Somnath among 68 recipients of the Rajyotsava Award

Bengaluru: ISRO Chairman S. Somanath among the 68 individuals selected for the prestigious Rajyotsava Award by the Karnataka government this year. The award will be conferred on the occasion of Karnataka’s 68th Rajyotsava, the state’s formation day, on November 1. This award, considered to be the second-highest civilian honor given by the state government, is bestowed in recognition of meritorious service in various fields.

Announcing the award recipients on Tuesday, Kannada Language and Culture Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi revealed that among the awardees, there are 13 women, 54 men, and one transgender individual. The recipients will receive a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and a 25-gram gold medal.

Renowned theatre personality Chidambar Rao Jambe, Yakshagana singer Leelavathi Baipadithaya, actors ‘Bank’ Janardhan and Dingri Nagaraj, Professor C. Naganna and Subbu Holeyar for literature, and journalists Dinesh Amin Mattu and Maya Sharma are among this year’s awardees.
