Thiruvananthapuram: An audit report has revealed that essential fire safety systems are absent in all important offices throughout Thiruvananthapuram. This safety lapse affects 28 significant buildings, including prominent structures like the Secretariat and Legislative Assembly, which fail to meet the safety standards outlined in the National Building Code of India (NBC 2016).

The fire audit conducted by Agni Raksha Sena has highlighted that locations such as the Secretariat and major business centers in Chalai, which have experienced frequent fire incidents, operate without adequate security systems. None of the buildings within the Secretariat or Legislative Assembly complex are in compliance with the established safety standards.

It has been identified that the Post Master General Junction (PMG), Poojapura’s Jail headquarters, and the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation Limited (KTDC) corporate office also lack functional fire protection systems. This lapse in safety measures encompasses 28 government institutions across nine different categories, encompassing vital institutions like the Thiruvananthapuram Civil Station and major hospitals.
