Diplomats of 51 countries pays tribute to Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi: India’s former External Affairs Minister and veteran BJP leader Sushma Swaraj who died on late Tuesday evening in New Delhi, was paid tribute by the Diplomats of 51 countries. They have written separate condolence messages in a book, and was arranged by the Permanent Mission of India at the United Nations.

In a tweet, India’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative at the United Nations Syed Akbaruddin said, “In diplomacy, words matter. Diplomats from all across the world record condolences on the sad demise of Madam Sushma Swaraj.” The tweet also features a 2.20 minute long video where diplomats of 51 countries from across the world are writing their messages for Sushma Swaraj and her family.

These countries include: Russia, Germany, Canada, Australia, Italy, Switzerland, Argentina, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Botswana, Brazil, South Korea, Egypt, Fiji, Georgia, Ghana, Kenya, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Israel, the UAE, among others.

The untimely demise of the seasoned leader came as a shock to many and thousands of tributes are pouring in from across the country and from all around the world. Her stint as the External Minister was filled with humane stories of how she went out of the way to help people in dire need of help. Her accessibility made it possible for anybody with a genuine and dire need to approach her without any formal request.

She is widely praised for using Twitter to this end and promptly responding to people’s queries on the social media platform and instructing the Ministry of External Affairs to address them.
