Varanasi : The newly constructed terminal with all most modern amenities will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 12th November. It is the first terminal to build on river Ganges. The construction of 2nd and 3rd are in progress.
The Central Government’s scheme of “Jal Maarg Vikas” aims the development of ports. The scheme will aim to develop the region that spreads from Varanasi to Haldiya, the terminals are build as a part. Once the the terminals are constructed ships weighing 1500 – 2000 tons will be able to travel through. This project is aimed at facilitating the transport of freight more smoothly.
The financial assistance of the project is done by the Central Government and the World Bank. The total expenditure is estimated as Rs 5,369 crore.
