New Delhi: India has witnessed a substantial surge in coal storage across the nation. According to the Ministry of Coal, the total coal reserves surged by an impressive 44 percent, reaching 110.58 million tonnes as of the 13th of this month. This notable growth in coal stockpiles reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring an ample supply of this vital resource, which plays a pivotal role in power generation.

As of June 13, the coal stockpiles of Coal India Limited stood at 59.73 metric tonnes, marking a growth rate of 25.77 percent compared to the previous year. The aggregate coal stocks encompassing mines, thermal power plants, and storage facilities amounted to 110.58 metric tonnes on the same date. Furthermore, coal supply to the power sector reached 164.84 metric tonnes, indicating a 5.11 percent increase compared to the previous year’s figure of 156.83 metric tonnes.

The stock of coal in thermal power plants reached 34.55 metric tonnes, showing a substantial growth of 53.1 percent from the previous year’s 22.57 metric tonnes. This notable expansion in the region signifies effective stock management strategies and operational efficiency adopted by the Ministry.
