New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Vietnamese counterpart, General Phan Van Giang, held productive bilateral talks on Monday, aiming to strengthen defence cooperation between India and Vietnam.

General Phan Van Giang, the Minister of National Defence of Vietnam, is currently on an official visit to India from June 18–19. In addition to the bilateral discussions, the minister will also embark on a cultural visit to Agra during his stay. As a gesture of respect, General Phan Van Giang laid a wreath at the National War Memorial earlier in the day. The two leaders will exchange views on various regional and global issues of mutual interest.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Defense, the defense engagements between India and Vietnam have become more diverse, encompassing a wide range of activities such as service-level contacts, military-to-military exchanges, high-level visits, capacity building and training programs, cooperation in UN peacekeeping missions, reciprocal ship visits, and bilateral exercises.

During Rajnath Singh’s visit to Vietnam in June 2022, major overarching guiding documents, namely the “Joint Vision Statement on India-Vietnam Defence Partnership towards 2030’ and a Memorandum of Understanding on ‘Mutual Logistics Support,” were signed that have significantly enhanced the scope and scale of defence cooperation between both the countries.
