New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a metro ride from Lok Kalyan Marg Metro Station to Vishwa Vidyalaya Metro Station in the national capital on Friday morning. His purpose was to attend the centenary celebrations of Delhi University, and during the metro journey, he engaged in interactions with fellow commuters.

PM Modi’s itinerary includes participating in the valedictory ceremony of the centenary celebrations at Delhi University. Prior to the event, he expressed his anticipation on Twitter, acknowledging Delhi University’s status as a premier centre of learning and congratulating the DU fraternity on their remarkable milestone. The prime minister also mentioned his plans to lay the foundation stone for the Delhi University Computer Centre, the Faculty of Technology building, and the academic block, which will be constructed on the University’s North Campus.

Established on May 1, 1922, the University of Delhi has undergone tremendous growth and expansion over the past century. With 86 departments, 90 colleges, and over 600,000 students, the university has played a significant role in the nation-building process.

According to police sources, a three-tier security plan comprising over 1,000 paramilitary and police officers was created to assure the prime minister’s protection during the DU ceremony.

PM Modi was invited as the chief guest for the closing day of Delhi University’s centenary celebrations, while Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan attended as the guest of honour. At the event, the prime minister laid the foundation stone for three buildings and unveiled a set of coffee table books. These buildings include the faculty of technology, a computer centre, and an academic block, all designed with state-of-the-art infrastructure and featuring seven-plus-one stories.
