Washington: Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu emphasised the safety and security of minorities in India during a gathering of Indian Americans in the Greater Washington DC area. Addressing the reception hosted by the National Council of Asian Indian Associations, Naidu, aged 74, stated that minorities in India are more secure than in several other countries, including the US.
“All propaganda is going on (against India). Certain sections of the Western media also. They joined this propaganda about India, about the security and safety of minorities. I want to tell those people that minorities are more safe and secure in India than here,” he said.
Naidu, who has been visiting the US, spoke to a group of Indian American doctors in Philadelphia, expressing India’s respect for its minorities.
“Those who wanted to go to Pakistan have already left (the country). Those who wanted to stay here, are here in India. Secularism is there in India because it’s in the blood of Indian people,” he said.
Naidu also cautioned Pakistan against interfering in India’s internal affairs and reaffirmed that Kashmir is an integral part of India. His remarks were made during his keynote address at the 41st annual American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) event, where he emphasised the significance of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
During the reception hosted by the National Council of Asian Indian Associations, Naidu was honored by the Sikhs of America for his efforts towards the welfare of Sikhs in India.
