New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) complex at Pragati Maidan on July 26, 2023. The prestigious project, developed at a cost of approximately ₹2,700 crore, is a result of the Prime Minister’s vision to establish world-class infrastructure for hosting meetings, conferences, and exhibitions in India.

The IECC complex covers an expansive campus area of around 123 acres, making it India’s largest Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) destination. It represents a significant overhaul of the old and outdated facilities at Pragati Maidan, transforming it into a top-notch exhibition and convention complex on a global scale.

Among its standout features, the Convention Centre is the centrepiece of the Pragati Maidan complex. It boasts an impressive architectural design inspired by Indian traditions, blending the nation’s rich heritage with modern amenities. The building’s shape is derived from the Shankh (conch shell), and its various walls and facades showcase elements of India’s traditional art and culture, celebrating achievements in fields such as harnessing solar energy and space exploration. Inside, the Convention Centre is equipped with multiple meeting rooms, lounges, auditoriums, an amphitheatre, and a business centre, making it suitable for hosting a diverse range of prestigious events.

One of the main highlights is its majestic multi-purpose hall and plenary hall, capable of accommodating a staggering seven thousand people, surpassing the seating capacity of the renowned Sydney Opera House in Australia. Additionally, the magnificent Amphitheatre offers seating for up to 3,000 individuals.

Moreover, the IECC complex is fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including 5G-enabled Wi-Fi coverage, 10G Intranet connectivity, advanced audiovisual systems with large video walls, a building management system ensuring optimal functionality and energy efficiency, an integrated surveillance system, and an energy-efficient centralised air conditioning system.

The complex also includes seven exhibition halls designed to host exhibitions, trade fairs, and business events from various industries worldwide. The outside area complements the main complex with sculptures, installations, murals showcasing India’s cultural heritage, musical fountains, and water bodies, creating a serene and aesthetic environment.

With over 5,500 vehicle parking spaces and easy access through signal-free roads, the IECC prioritises visitors’ convenience. The project aims to promote India as a global business destination by supporting trade and commerce, driving economic growth, and creating job opportunities. It will serve as a platform for small and medium enterprises to showcase their products and services on both national and international levels while facilitating knowledge exchange and industry advancements.

The IECC at Pragati Maidan stands as a symbol of India’s pursuit of economic and technological excellence in line with the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and represents a significant step towards building a New India.
