New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar voiced his displeasure with the Opposition’s persistent sloganeering during a suo moto statement on India’s foreign policy in the Rajya Sabha. He believed that the opposition was unwilling to listen and instead sought to criticise India’s successes. When it comes to India’s foreign policy, Jaishankar stressed the significance of a united front, emphasising that it is a collective duty rather than the responsibility of any single party.

He urged the Opposition to work together in matters of national interest, setting aside political differences. Despite his attempts to present developments in foreign policy and India’s achievements, the Opposition’s disruptive behaviour overshadowed his statement. Jaishankar mentioned significant achievements in foreign policy, such as bringing GE engines to India and attracting major international companies to set up factories in the country. However, the disruptions in the Rajya Sabha led to the adjournment of the session until 2 pm.

“We may debate within the country, but outside the country, we should display a united front. Opposition’s conduct today should be looked into, when it comes to the national interest, politics should be set aside and it should be appreciated,” said Jaishankar. “The behaviour of the opposition today in the Rajya Sabha, I would say that attention should be paid where there is an advantage of the country,” EAM added.

Earlier in the day, the INDIA alliance arrived at Parliament wearing black clothes, alleging to protest against the Manipur violence. Additionally, on Wednesday, the INDIA bloc rallied behind a no-confidence motion against the PM Modi government brought by the Congress in the Lok Sabha. However, the government, enjoying the support of at least 332 MPs in the Lok Sabha, faces no real threat from this no-confidence motion.
