New Delhi: According to the Lok Sabha’s legislative agenda, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will propose the Central Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2023 on the penultimate day of Parliament’s monsoon session. The proposed law seeks to make changes to the Central Goods and Services Tax.
Sitharaman will also propose the Integrated Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2023, at the same time, with both proposals scheduled for thorough consideration and possible adoption.
In a significant move, the government intends to present legislation within the Lok Sabha that seeks to levy a 28% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on activities related to online gaming, casinos, and horse racing. This decision represents a notable step towards regulating and taxing these sectors under the GST framework.
Meanwhile, during a recent session in the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded vigorously to the no-confidence motion introduced by the Congress, which was part of a new opposition coalition named “INDIA.” Addressing concerns related to Manipur, PM Modi reassured the people of the state that the entire nation stands in solidarity with them and that efforts are underway to restore peace in the region.
As anticipated, the no-confidence motion presented by the opposition coalition was ultimately defeated. The motion was met with expected opposition, with lawmakers from the opposition alliance “INDIA” staging a protest and exiting the legislative session even before the formal voting process could take place.
