Amritsar: A significant breakthrough occurred in Punjab as law enforcement authorities successfully dismantled a cross-border drug smuggling ring in Amritsar. The Amritsar Counter Intelligence Team conducted a special operation leading to the apprehension of a seven-member drug gang. During the operation, the team seized a substantial quantity of 15 kg of heroin.

The crackdown was initiated based on intelligence indicating that narcotics were being illicitly transported from Pakistan into India through the border region. The accused individuals were found to have employed drones as part of their drug smuggling operations.

DGP Gaurav Yadav confirmed the drug smuggling activities and highlighted that, in addition to the arrests, two vehicles with an estimated value of ₹7 lakh were also confiscated from the suspects. An FIR has been filed against the apprehended individuals.

In a related incident, the Border Security Force and Punjab Police collaborated to intercept and seize 2.752 kg of illicit substances in Mehdipur village, Taran district. This operation was launched following a tip-off about drug trafficking facilitated through the use of drones.
