Mumbai: Vijay Purushottam Salvi, a close associate of gangster Ravi Pujari, was apprehended at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Thane. Vijay Salvi, the accused, had been on the run since 2017, when he was wanted for an extortion case, and had fled to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). A senior police officer stated that the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) has been invoked against him.

On Thursday, immigration officials intercepted Salvi upon his arrival from the UAE at Mumbai International Airport. Subsequently, he was handed over to the Thane City Police’s Crime Branch. Salvi was sought after for his involvement in an extortion case where gangster Ravi Pujari demanded Rs 10 crore from Mahendra Pamnani, a representative of Roma Builders, in 2017, as per a police official.

Furthermore, police authorities revealed that Salvi had multiple charges against him, including violations of the Arms Act and several serious offences such as attempted murder, at police stations in Mulund, Kasturba Marg, and Samta Nagar. Following his appearance in court, Salvi was remanded to police custody for a duration of 14 days, according to a senior police officer.
