Chennai: Actors Karthi and Suriya have contributed Rs 10 lakh for initiating relief works for the residents of Chennai grappling with the aftermath of Cyclone Mishong. The donated funds will be used for conducting relief operations in the flood-affected districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu. The assistance is being facilitated through the actors’ respective fan organisations.

The cyclone has claimed eight lives in Tamil Nadu. The impact of heavy rains increased in several districts. Cyclone Mishong has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal, moving towards the Andhra coast. The affected districts include Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, and Vellore, along with Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, and Kanyakumari. A rain warning has been issued for 10 districts in the state today.

The rainfall has led to severe disruptions, causing traffic standstills in many parts of the state. It resulted in the cancellation of various trains, including the Chennai-Kollam route. Several flights have been cancelled from Thiruvananthapuram airport, affecting services to Chennai, Bengaluru, Kannur, and Kochi. Sabarimala pilgrims returning from Kerala are stuck at Chengannur and Kottayam stations. Chennai airport is also closed, and 33 flights are currently redirected to Bangalore.
