New Delhi: The Indian Army has unveiled plans for a change in its promotion and ranking policy. This policy aims to secure the smooth and dynamic operation of the force. Set to be enforced on January 1, 2024, the comprehensive promotion policy seeks to streamline operations and adapt to both current and emerging challenges faced by the military.
According to sources within the Army, the new policy aims to align leadership requisites with the evolving landscape, offering a multitude of promotional opportunities. This reform will extend promotional prospects to individuals holding the rank of Major General. Officials assigned to the ‘Staff’ division will also be eligible for advancement within the same division. It will provide an opportunity to enhance the careers of officers in all branches.
The Indian Army’s current human resource management practices are reported to be based on diverse policies. However, the upcoming policy is anticipated to introduce further transformations within the Army’s operational and administrative framework. The changes signify the approach taken by the Army’s leadership to adapt to contemporary challenges and optimise career development avenues for its personnel.
