New Delhi: E-commerce giant Amazon is facing scrutiny for its sale of sweets on its platform under the name ‘Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad.’ The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), led by Chief Commissioner Rohit Kumar Singh, has taken action in response to a complaint filed by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). The CAIT alleges that Amazon is involved in “deceptive trade practices” by selling sweets in the name of ‘prasad’ from Ram temple in Ayodhya .

Several products have been brought into focus, including ‘Raghupati Ghee Ladoo,’ ‘Khoya Khobi Ladoo,’ ‘Ghee Bundi Ladoo,’ and ‘Desi Cow Milk Peda.’ The CCPA contends that the online sale of food products with misleading representations can misguide consumers about the true characteristics of the items.

The action initiated by the CCPA underscores the need for transparency and truthfulness in online commerce to safeguard the interests of consumers and maintain trust in the marketplace. The outcome of this investigation will likely have implications for the larger discussion surrounding deceptive trade practices within the e-commerce industry.
