Dispur: In a significant blow to the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, its working president, Rana Goswami, tendered his resignation on Wednesday, hinting at a potential move to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Goswami, a senior leader within the Congress, submitted his resignation letter to Congress General Secretary, KC Venugopal, stating, “I beg to state that I am tendering my resignation as the working President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and as an active member of Indian National Congress.” Goswami has previously served as a Congress representative from Jorhat in 2006 and 2011.
Reports suggest that Goswami is slated to meet with the central leadership of the BJP, including Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, indicating his intention to join the ruling party in Assam. Presently, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is in Delhi for discussions with the central leadership to finalise Lok Sabha candidates for the state.
