New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has initiated a plan to attract first-time voters to participate in the electoral process, aiming to incorporate young voters into the electoral roll. This endeavor is being undertaken in collaboration with the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Union Ministry of Education.

Under this scheme, various tools such as videos, banners, selfie points, and other content provided by the Election Commission and the Ministry of Education will be utilized to raise awareness in colleges and higher education institutions. The objective is to encourage active participation in the democratic process among students.

The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held in seven phases throughout April and May.

The nationwide ‘Mera Pehla Vote Desh Ke Liye’ campaign was launched on February 28, with voter awareness programs organized at designated locations in universities and colleges across the country. This election cycle, an estimated 98.6 crore citizens will exercise their right to vote, comprising 47.1 crore women and 49.7 crore male voters. It is anticipated that 1.8 crore first-time voters will participate, including 85 lakh girls.
