Ernakulam: Kerala High Court overturns order allowing Dr. Ruwise, the prime accused in the Dr. Shahana suicide case, to resume studies. The Kerala High Court’s Division Bench overturned the single bench’s order permitting him to continue his studies.
The decision follows a petition submitted by the Dean of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College to the division bench of Chief Justice AJ Desai and Justice VG Arun. Dr. Ruwise, currently out on bail, had petitioned the court seeking permission to resume his studies and the revocation of his suspension. The High Court Division Bench clarified that disciplinary action from the college against Ruwise could continue.
Thiruvananthapuram Medical College authorities decided to extend Ruwise’s suspension period by three more months. The Kerala government will appoint a committee to look into this matter. The Division Bench directed the committee to review the disciplinary action within a week and make a decision.
According to police records, Dr. Shahana and Dr. Ruwise were PG students at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. Earlier, Ruwise had promised to marry Shahana. However, Ruwise and his family later demanded dowry, which Shahana’s family was unable to fulfill. As a result, Ruwise refused to marry her, leading her into depression and eventual suicide.
