Kottayam: A mahout died after being trampled by an elephant during a temple procession in Kottayam. The deceased has been identified as Aravind (26), a resident of Changanassery. The incident occurred on Wednesday night around 9 pm at Sri Ramaswamy Temple, TV Puram, Vaikom.
According to reports, the elephant, Thottekkad Kunjulakshmi, was participating in the temple rituals when it suddenly went berserk and trampled Aravind, who was standing behind the elephant. Although temple committee officials and locals immediately admitted Aravind to a private hospital in Vaikam and then to the Vaikam Taluk Hospital, his life could not be saved. The CCTV footage of the incident has been released.
