Thiruvananthapuram: Lyricist and poet Chunakkara Ramankutty passed away in a private hospital at the capital city on Wednesday at 11 pm. He was 84.
Ramankutty was undergoing treatment for physical ailments. He was staying with his family in ‘Renuka Nivas’ in Thirumala. He is survived by daughters Renuka, Radhika and Ragini.
Ramankutty had penned lyrics for many film songs. His notable one include ‘Devadaru Poothu Nin Manasin Thazhvarayil’ from the movie “Engane Nee Marakkum”. He rose to fame through the movie ‘Oru Thira Pinneyum Thira’ directed by P G Viswambaran.
Ramankutty is also the recipient of Gurushreshta Award instituted by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi in 2015. He penned almost 30 songs for various films in 1984.
