Kochi: Fire broke out in a 6-storey building near South Railway Station situated in the heart of the city. After the firefighters failed to douse the fire that engulfed a showroom and godown of a prominent footwear company, the Navy has been called in for assistance.
Though, the fire is yet to be under control the Navy and firefighters have been successful to contain the fire in the building and has prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings.
Reports say 18 firefighting units are pressed into service. People from nearby buildings and houses have been evacuated. Police believe that no one is trapped in the building.
Authorities suspect short circuit for the sudden fire.
