Kilikollur custodial torture case; accused policemen reinstated in service

Thiruvananthapuram: Kilikollur Policemen’s suspension has been revoked in the case of torturing a soldier and his brothers in police custody. The suspensions of Circle Inspector K. Vinod, Sub-Inspector A.P. Aneesh, Assistant Sub-Inspector Prakash Chandran, and CPO Manikandan Pillai were lifted, and they were reinstated in the service. The South Regional IG, G. Sparjan Kumar, issued the order regarding the reinstatement of police officers.

Kilikollur’s custodial torture of the two brothers sparked widespread controversy in Kerala. The soldier and his brother were subjected to brutal beatings by the police officers after being summoned under the pretence of assisting in the bail process for a case involving MDMA. A false case was registered against the two brothers following a dispute between the assistant sub-inspector and soldier Vishnu. But the news that spread out was that the two brothers who had come to meet the accused in the drug smuggling case created violence in the police station and assaulted the ASI. So the police registered a case against them, but the CCTV footage that came out after the issue proved that the police’s allegations were false. As this became a controversy, the police officers who were involved in custodial torture were suspended.
