Palakkad: Village assistant V. Suresh Kumar will be dismissed from service in the Palakkayam bribery case. Revenue Minister K. Rajan approved the investigation team’s report. It was also decided to take action against the Palakkayam village officer. The deposits and money seized from him were identified as illicit gains, accumulated through bribes from various places.
Hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, Suresh Kumar would solicit bribes ranging from Rs. 500 to Rs. 10,000 from numerous individuals visiting the Palakkayam village office for various certificates. The local residents previously protested against this corrupt behaviour. Suresh Kumar purposely avoided communication via phone and instead collected the bribe directly from the people in need.
During a search operation carried out at the accused’s residence under the guidance of the State Vigilance Chief, illegal assets worth crores were uncovered and seized. The haul from Suresh Kumar’s lodge amounted to a total of Rs. 35,70,000, marking the largest seizure of ill-gotten assets by a government official in the history of state vigilance raids.
