A Village Officer in Palakkad, Mohammed Ghaus of Puthusserry Central Village Office, has been apprehended by the vigilance department after being caught red-handed measuring the land of a private individual during official working hours. The vigilance investigation was initiated based on a secret information that the employees were regularly conducting private land measurements and allocations in the afternoon. Additionally, there were allegations of bribery involving individuals seeking certificates from the village office.
During the surprise inspection conducted by vigilance officials, it was discovered that only one employee was present in the office. Subsequently, Mohammed Ghaus, the Special Village Officer, arrived at the office in an autorickshaw with a measuring tape and office documents. Upon questioning, he admitted to conducting measurements on private land. Moreover, he confessed to accepting a bribe of Rs 3500 for the land measuring services. Furthermore, it was revealed that he had mismanaged the seniority list of applications received by the office.
Vigilance officials informed that for the further procedures, the inspection report will be submitted to the Vigilance Director soon.
