A major controversy has arisen surrounding a leader of the Student Federation of India (SFI) who failed the B. Com examination but managed to secure admission for the M.Com program with alleged intervention from MSM College.
It is alleged that the Milad-E-Sharif Memorial (MSM) College, Kayamkulam, management colluded to give M. Com admission to SFI leader Nikhil Thomas, who failed in B.Com. As per reports, the SFI leader Nikhil is currently pursuing second year M.Com at the MSM College, but he has not completed B. Com, which he also studied at the same college. Later, Nikhil got admission for M. Com at the same college based on a certificate he produced from Kalinga University. In this situation, the students associations alleged that the college management granted admission to Nikhil knowing that the certificate was fake.
The incident came to light only after a female SFI representative filed the complaint. The female representative who filed the complaint was also his college junior. According to her complaint, Nikhil Thomas failed in the B. Com degree course and later got admission for the M. Com by presenting a certificate from Kalinga University. The complainant raised a valid question, questioning how a student could acquire two degree certificates within the same academic year (2018-2021).
Following the incident, many student organisations have been protesting, alleging collusion by the college management in granting admission to Nikhil Thomas. As the protests continue to gain momentum, the MSM College management is under pressure to provide a clear explanation regarding the admission.
