In a tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday morning, June 20, 2023, an explosion at the Kairali steel factory in Kanjikode, Palakkad district, resulted in the death of one person and left three others injured.
The deceased was identified as Aravindan, 22, son of Pradeesh of Pathanamthitta, an excavator operator in the factory. Charred remains of Aravindan’s body were found trapped in the excavator. Three migrant abourers, who were injured in the explosion, have been admitted to hospital.
Local witnesses reported that the incident took place around 5 am, accompanied by a loud explosion.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the blast originated from a furnace within the factory. The fire and rescue teams from Palakkad and Kanjikode swiftly arrived at the scene to carry out rescue operations.
The exact number of individuals present in the company at the time of the incident remains unclear, prompting ongoing search efforts to account for any additional individuals who might be affected.
