THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Government has announced an extension of the deadline for linking ration cards with Aadhaar cards. The new deadline is set for September 30. Ration cards serve not only as a document for availing subsidized food supplies but also as a means of identification. Consequently, it has become mandatory to link the ration card with the Aadhaar card.

This move aims to address issues such as the existence of multiple ration cards held by individuals and the prevalence of fake ration cards. By linking the ration card with the Aadhaar card, the government can ensure that the deserving beneficiaries receive their entitled rations, while preventing any fraudulent practices.

The linking of ration card with Aadhaar cards can be availed free of cost by cardholders from ration shops. Ration shop staff should arrange specific service times and inform beneficiaries accordingly. Beneficiaries can link their Aadhaar card with the ration card directly through Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) machines at ration shops or through Akshaya Kendras and Taluk Supplies Offices.

By extending the deadline and promoting the linkage between ration cards and Aadhaar cards, the government aims to optimize the public distribution system and ensure that the benefits reach those in genuine need.

In case of direct application, certain documents must be provided. These include copies of the Aadhaar cards for all family members, a copy of the ration card, and a passport-sized photograph of the ration card holder.

After the ration card is linked with Aadhaar, you will receive a mobile SMS notification.
