Kozhikode: A report said that the authorities of the Kozhikode Medical College refused to submit a report or reply to the state Women’s Commission in a case pertaining to sexual abuse of a woman in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Medical College Hospital.

Both the Health Department and the police had pointed out, earlier, of serious lapses from the part of the Medical College hospital in this regard.

According to the report, Kerala Women’s Commission, P Sathidevi, informed that this matter would be brought to the attention of the Health Department and a detailed report will be sought again. It is said that the Commission had sent a notice in June to the hospital superintend to submit the investigation report.

The victim was summoned by the Commission to collect more information. Though the victim arrived at 10.30 am the Medical College authorities did not arrive. The report was also not submitted.

There were widespread criticisms against summoning the victim many times to the public adalat.

The report said that the Women’s Commission took the complaint from the victim in the case the commission had taken up directly. Later, the victim filed another complaint after five hospital staff pressurized her to withdraw her complaint.

The Women’s Commission had sought two reports from the Medical College authorities in these two incidents.
