Kozhikkod: A seven year boy, who was under treatment, died here in Kozhikkod. The deceased is Mohammed Shan, native of A R Nagar, Vengara, Malappuram. He was under observation at Medical College Hospital in Kozhikkod. The boy was earlier admitted in a private hospital at Kottakkal and later admitted to Medical College Hospital with fever, headache,body pain and fatigue. He had been under treatment for last ten days in Medical College.
Mohammed Shan had tested positive for West Nile virus after admitting at Medical College. Two members of National Centre for Disease Control from Delhi had reached Malappuram for managing the disease.
Authorities say that West Nile virus spreads from birds to mosquitoes and thus to humans. The disease was first reported in Alappuzha in the year 2011.
