THRISSUR: In a recent incident, officials from the fisheries department in Chavakkad seized a fishing boat for violating the ban on trawling. The boat, identified as V.S.M-2 and owned by Abdul Jalil from Malappuram Tanur, was found to be in possession of approximately 5,000 kilograms of small young mackerel and other fish under 10 centimeters in size, which is in direct violation of the trawling ban.

As per the ban’s regulations, the joint efforts of the Marine Enforcement, Munakka Kadavu Coastal Police, and Fisheries, under the guidance of Azhikode Fisheries Station Assistant Director, resulted in the confiscation of the vessel.

In response to the illegal fishing activity, the young fish were compassionately released back into the sea to preserve the marine ecosystem. Abdul Jalil, the owner of the seized boat, has also been penalized for his involvement in the prohibited activity.

The authorities reaffirmed their commitment to enforce the trawling ban and protect the delicate marine life in the region, sending a clear message to deter others from engaging in such illegal practices.
