THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Accused Ashfaq Alam, charged with the brutal torture and murder of a five-year-old girl in Aluva, has been remanded for 14 days. Following medical examinations at Aluva District Hospital, Ashfaq Alam was presented before the Magistrate.

The accused was brought before Aluva Additional Magistrate Lathika, and subsequently, he will be shifted to Aluva Sub Jail during the remand period.

Police have charged Ashfaq with murder and POCSO offenses. Further investigations related to the case may lead the police to Bihar, as there are suspicions about the accused’s origin, whether he is from Bangladesh or Bihar. His criminal background and address details will also be thoroughly investigated.

In the meantime, the body of the deceased girl was cremated at Keezhmadu Panchayat Public cemetery at around 10:30 am today. A large gathering, including BJP state president K Surendran, paid their last respects to the child at Thaikkattukara School.

The tragic incident began on Friday when the child was kidnapped from her house, and on the same day, the accused, Ashfaq, raped and killed her. He then disposed of the baby’s body in a sack bag in the Aluva market area.

The discovery of the girl’s body came as a result of a missing person complaint, prompting a search operation which led to the grim revelation.
