Muvattupuzha: The police have arrested Anson Roy, the accused in the case of the bike accident that claimed the life of a college student, Namitha, last week. Anson was undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College following the accident. He was arrested by the police yesterday afternoon.
He has been charged with intentional homicide and attempted murder. Anson was also an accused in many other cases, including attempt to murder, assault, and drug trafficking.
Anson’s speeding motorcycle mowed down R. Namitha, a final-year BCom student, as she was crossing the road in the heart of Muvattupuzha town on July 26.
Fearing outrage from college students, police refrained from bringing Anson to the accident site during the day to gather evidence. A police team led by circle inspector P. M. Baiju arrived at Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha, to collect information from Principal Dr. KV Thomas and eyewitnesses.
Police have determined that, given the presence of accurate evidence and video footage, there is no immediate need to bring him to the college gate for further evidence collection. They also added that Anson’s injuries are minor in nature. The accused will be produced in court today and remanded.
Another student, Anushree Raj, who was being treated at Kottayam’s Caritas Hospital after being injured in the accident, left the hospital.
