Kannur: In a recent incident that highlights the concerns of child safety, the Railway Police in Kannur have successfully apprehended three minors who were en route to Goa from their hometowns. The three children, two boys hailing from Oachira and a girl from Chavara, were taken into custody by the police.
The alert was initially raised by concerned parents who had filed complaints with the Oachira police and the Chavara police, reporting their children missing from their respective places. Simultaneously, a vigilant Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) grew suspicious upon encountering the children, who were asleep within the sleeper compartment of the Netravathi Express. Recognising the potential danger and violation of child protection norms, the TTE promptly alerted the local authorities.
The railway sub-Inspector (SI) engaged in a conversation with the apprehended children to gather more information about their situation. Following their conversation, it was revealed that the minors had embarked on the journey to Goa independently, without proper adult supervision or authorization.
Understanding the critical importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of these young children, the Railway SI coordinated with Childline to facilitate their transfer to appropriate shelters.
The youngsters were subsequently escorted back to Kannur under police supervision.
