Kottayam: A ministerial employee associated with the Inspector General’s (IG) office has been apprehended on charges of sexually assaulting a woman aboard a KSRTC bus. The accused, identified as Sathish (39) hailing from Idukki’s Kanchiyar, had been employed as a confidential assistant at the Thiruvananthapuram Police Training College’s Headquarters ADGP (Training) office, which falls under the purview of the Economics Offence Wing IG.

Subsequent to the distressing incident, Sathish has been suspended from his employment. His arrest transpired at 11 am yesterday. The alleged sexual assault transpired at Mithrapuram on a KSRTC fast passenger bus plying the route from Kottayam to Thiruvananthapuram. Following the victim’s report, law enforcement personnel escorted the accused to the police station using a bus.

The victim’s statement has been formally documented, leading to the initiation of a registered case. Concurrently, in a similar incident, a police officer was detained in Pathanamthitta under comparable circumstances. The arrested individual, identified as Shameer, holds the position of Chief Police Officer (CPO) at the Konni station.
