Thiruvananthapuram: The Union Home Minister has revealed the recipients of police medals for exceptional investigative accomplishments, with nine police officers from Kerala earning this prestigious recognition. Notably, SPs Vaibhav Saxsena, D Shilpa, and R Ilango, along with Additional SP Zulfikar MK, K Sajan, ACP P Raj Kumar, Dinil JK, and Circle Inspectors’ KR Biju and P Harilal, have been acknowledged for their exemplary work.

Shilpa and Zulfikar were commended for their exceptional handling of the investigation into the tragic murders of a mother and child in Maranalloor. Dinil JK’s award stemmed from his instrumental role in solving the case of a foreign woman’s murder in Kovalam.

The drug-related inquiry resulted in recognitions for R Ilango and Vaibhav Saxena. Harilal’s exceptional efforts led to the arrest of suspects involved in the Manorama murder case. Similarly, Raj Kumar’s diligent investigation into Kollam’s Vismaya case and KR Biju’s notable work in the Nooranad Irshad murder case were both acknowledged.

This year’s Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation has been bestowed upon a total of 140 police personnel, according to a press release from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The awardees include 15 individuals from the CBI, 12 from the NIA, 10 from Uttar Pradesh, 9 each from Kerala and Rajasthan, 8 from Tamil Nadu, 7 from Madhya Pradesh, and 6 from Gujarat. The remainder represents other states, union territories, and organisations. Notably, this group includes 22 accomplished women police officers.

Established in 2018, the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation seeks to elevate the standards of crime investigation and acknowledge outstanding investigative achievements. The medals are presented annually on August 12th to individuals from various ranks, ranging from Head Constable to Superintendent of Police, within Central Investigation Agencies, state police forces, and union territory police forces.

The selection process involves the online submission of recommendations by eligible officials. In the previous year, a total of 151 police personnel were honoured with the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation, highlighting the ongoing commitment to recognising and celebrating exceptional investigative contributions.
